NILES -- Justin Daly had three goals and A.J. Giancola one goal as Hubbard High (1-0) defeated Niles 4-2 in a boys soccer game Tuesday. Hubbard goalie Justin Hayek had nine saves.
For Niles (1-1), Eric Faith and Brad McFadden each had one goal, while goalie Brett Gatta had 15 saves.
Fitch 5, Salem 1: AUSTINTOWN -- Sam Camens and Gus Martinez each scored two goals for Fitch (2-0), while Ryan Puskas also had a goal and two assists. Martinez, Alex Castillo and Keith Leiter each had one assist for the Falcons, while goalie Brett Gleydura had eight saves.
Mooney 6, West Branch 0: STRUTHERS -- Pat Walker had three goals while Kiki Willis, Stelio Frangopolous and Mike Hernan each had one goal for Mooney (2-0). Mark Seddon, Jon Freany, Christo Frangopolous and Josh Werning each had one assist, while goalie Tim Reigrut had three saves and goalie Jeff Seddon had one to aid the Cardinals. West Branch is 0-1.
Boardman 2, Howland 2: HOWLAND -- Jamie Hay had two goals for Boardman (1-0-1), while Ryan Ingram and Andy Good each had an assist and goalie Joel Monaco seven saves.
Warren JFK 6, Garrettsville 0: GARRETTSVILLE -- Shawn Bean had three goals and two assists and Anthony Joseph two goals to lead Warren JFK (1-0). John DeCristofaro added one goal and Quinn Macali an assist, while freshman goalie Brian Wolnick made his varsity debut with nine saves. JFK is 1-0, Garfield 0-1-1.
Girls: GIRARD -- Jenny Sopkovich had three goals while Morgan Tondo had two and Heather Martin and Nicole Brooks one goal each, as Girard's (2-0) girls defeated Badger 7-2. Sopkovich, Martin and Leah Neff each had one assist. Goalies Angela Dipiero and Lindsay Hosking each had three saves.
For Badger, Jenny Place and Amanda Meyers each had one goal, while goalie Elizabeth Smith had 10 saves.
Mooney 4, Warren Harding 0: STRUTHERS -- Katie Duracky had two goals and Amy Edwards and Jamie Matteo one apiece for Mooney (1-0), while goalie Adrianne Detesco had five saves. Harding goalies Taylor Cribley and Jennifer Jennings combined for seven goals.
Warren JFK 2, Wilmington 0: NEW WILMINGTON -- Sarah McNeil scored the first goal on a penalty kick while Melissa Peterson added an unassisted goal, as JFK improved to 2-0. Goalie Michelle Rossio had nine saves.
Wilmington (0-1) goalie Kylie Mackaness had 22 saves.
