hAnd now, vinegar
The winery Sutter Home is extending its presence into the vinegar aisle. We liked the flavor of all five varieties of its new wine vinegars: white zinfandel, Champagne, chardonnay, cabernet sauvignon-balsamic and merlot. They'll add spark to salad dressings, marinades and other dishes. The attractive packaging is another plus. Each 375-milliliter bottle costs about $4 at supermarkets.
Recipes sought
St. Anthony Altar and Rosary Society is collecting recipes for a cookbook to be sold as a fund-raiser. Anyone wishing to share a family recipe may contact Maria Orr, (330) 545-2942; Kathy Rimedio, (330) 747-2240; or Julie Pontuti, (330) 759-8827, for details.
Guilford Lake meeting
GUILFORD LAKE -- The Guilford Lake Civic Association will meet at 7 p.m. Friday at Guilford Ruritan Pavilion, state Route 172. Dave Cranmer, county commissioner, Nancy Milliken, county auditor, Alan Gatchell, park manager, and township trustees have been invited to attend. Membership dues are $2.50 per year.
Vegan variety
Vegans dine with considerably more restrictions than other vegetarians because they omit any animal-derivative food -- that means no milk, cheese or eggs. "The Mediterranean Vegan Kitchen" (Berkeley Publishing, $17.95), by Donna Klein, will spice up the menu with more than 300 dishes. It is available at some Borders bookstores, www.barnesandnoble.com and www.amazon.com.
