Elections board approves plan to change voting precincts

WARREN -- The Trumbull County Board of Elections approved a plan to change 47 of the 284 county voting precincts.
Under the plan, which must also be approved by the Ohio Secretary of State, 13 precincts with fewer than 300 registered voters will be eliminated and four new precincts created.
The changes will not have any impact on political representation or how city council ward lines are drawn, said Norma Williams, director of the board of elections.
Polling places: Under the plan, some voters' polling places will change for the primary election in 2002.
The net reduction in the number of precincts will save the county $11,000 a year, Williams said Tuesday.
The elections board also rejected ballot petitions for three potential candidates and for a local option in Warren.
Absent from ballot: The names of prospective Greene Township trustees William T. Barnett and Alan Lee Reeves, and prospective Lordstown Board of Education member Beth Krempasky, will not appear on the ballot because they did not collect sufficient valid signatures, the board ruled.
An option to allow Sunday sales of wine and mixed beverages in Warren's Precinct 1-B also will not appear on the ballot because the petition was not circulated with a list of liquor license holders in the area, the board ruled.
