ESB and Liberty Mutual are sponsoring the breakfast, which serves as the beginning of the United Way appeal campaign. The campaign provides support for 19 agencies in Lawrence County. The cost of the breakfast is $10.
Food distribution set
NEW CASTLE, Pa. -- The surplus food distribution for Lawrence County residents will be Friday at the local distribution centers in the townships and boroughs.
Each person eligible will receive a $15 voucher and a variety of vegetables, fruits and other canned and boxed food. Any township or borough residents who missed the June 29 food giveaway and did not call or come to the county commissioner's offices by July 31 to be reinstated will not receive food.
All New Castle residents must have their pink card to receive the food and voucher. Anyone who lost their card must come to the commissioners offices before Friday to get a new one. There will be no cards issued on the day of the giveaway.
Facing DUI charge
ELLWOOD CITY, Pa. -- Police are planning to charge a Pittsburgh woman with driving under the influence after her car ran into a post late Thursday night.
The woman, 27, was treated at Ellwood City Hospital.
Police say the woman drove through a stop sign on Fifth Street and struck one of the posts holding up the CSX train overpass.
Police search for teen
MERCER, Pa. -- Police are searching for a 16-year-old boy who escaped Friday from George Junior Republic, a juvenile detention facility near Grove City.
Pennsylvania State Police reports say that after he escaped, he was found behind a nearby Wal-Mart store. He eluded capture, however, by jumping over a 10-foot wall.
He is the second boy to escape from George Junior and be sought by police this year. In March, police returned a boy to George Junior a day after he escaped.
