Grant funds available
COLUMBUS -- The Ohio Department of Natural Resources is accepting applications for more than $2 million in Great Lakes Coastal Restoration Grant funds that are available to local governments in the Lake Erie watershed. Deadline for receipt of applications is Oct. 19. Funds may be used by local agencies to acquire property or conservation easements on sensitive wetland and coastal habitats.

Applications openfor Ravenna hunt
AKRON -- The Ohio Division of Wildlife is now accepting applications for 2001 controlled waterfowl hunting opportunities at the Ravenna Training and Logistics Site (formerly known as the Ravenna Arsenal) in Portage County.
A total of 90 parties consisting of 2-3 hunters will be selected and required to attend an orientation on Sept. 22. At that time, selected hunters will be entered into a drawing for their choice of dates and the ten available hunting sites. Hunting areas and dates will be drawn until all dates are filled.
Each group will be permitted to hunt at least once and depending upon the number of groups and the luck of the draw some may hunt twice during the waterfowl season at Ravenna. The hunts will be held one half hour before sunrise until noon on Mondays and Thursdays only, from Oct. 22 through Nov. 19.
Interested hunters must send a postcard containing the following information on all members of their hunting party: Names, birth dates, addresses, 2000 or 2001 hunting license numbers. Only one postcard per person will be accepted. Duplicate entries or individual names appearing on more than one card will be disqualified. The deadline for applications is Aug.31. Those selected will receive a letter permit and additional information by mail.
In order to be permitted to hunt, at least one member of each hunting party is required to attend the drawing and mandatory orientation, Sept. 22, 9 a.m. until approximately noon.
There is a fee of $10 per party required by the Ohio Army National Guard. This fee will be collected at the Sept. 22nd drawing and cash payment is preferred.
PENNSYLVANIA
Apply for unsoldantlerless licensesbeginning Monday
HARRISBURG -- Pennsylvania county treasurers will begin accepting applications for the first round of unsold antlerless licenses Monday. Hunters only may apply for one unsold license during this round, but may apply for a second unsold antlerless license beginning Sept. 10. Beginning Monday, Nov. 5, hunters may apply over-the-counter for unsold antlerless licenses in all counties.
Based on a survey of county treasurers, 23 counties have exhausted their antlerless deer license allocations. Those counties are: Armstrong; Bedford; Cambria; Carbon; Centre; Clarion; Clearfield; Clinton; Crawford; Elk; Forest; Juniata; Mercer; Mifflin; Perry; Potter; Schuylkill; Snyder; Somerset; Sullivan; Union; Venango; and Wyoming.
In addition to these 23 counties, there are 14 other counties with fewer than 1,000 antlerless licenses remaining.
Horsepower meeting
The Pennsylvania Department of Conservation and Natural Resources and the Pennsylvania Fish and Boat Commission have set a public meeting to receive comment on requested changes to boating horsepower limits at some state park lakes.
The meeting will begin at 7 p.m. Wednesday, at Pennsylvania Fish and Boat Commission headquarters, 1601 Elmerton Ave., Harrisburg.
Changes are being considered at only the 10-horsepower lakes that -- with the exception of Yellow Creek State Park in Indiana County - are larger than 1,000 acres. Other 10-horsepower state parks are: Codorus, York County; Maurice K. Goddard, Mercer County; Moraine, Butler County; Nockamixon, Bucks County; Prince Gallitzin, Cambria County; and Pymatuning, Crawford County.

Orphaned bear cubs released intro wild
Pennsylvania Game Commission personnel recently released three orphaned black bear cubs from the agency's reintroduction facility back into the wilds of State Game Lands 134 in Lycoming County.
Pennsylvania Cable Network was on hand to document the preparation and release of the three bear cubs. PCN plans to broadcast the one-hour program at 7 p.m. on Sept. 3. BOATING
Basic course set
The Youngstown Power Squadron will hold a 5 week basic boating course starting Sept. 13. The class will meet Thursdays from 7:30 to 9:30 p.m. at the Mahoning County Career Center, 7300 N. Palmyra Road, Canfield.
