BENEFIT AHA to sponsor annual Heart Walk



The event will take place at two area locations.
YOUNGSTOWN -- The American Heart Association will hold its annual American Heart Walk Sept. 22.
Two sites selected for the event are Cafaro Field in Niles for Trumbull County participants and Boardman Township Park for Mahoning and northern Columbiana counties.
Registration will begin at 8 a.m., and the walk will start at 9. Music, health screenings, refreshments and door prizes also will be offered.
Funds raised will support cardiovascular research, community service and educational programs in the area. The goal for the event is $190,000.
Special participants: Survivors of heart disease and stroke will be honored with special red caps or year pins to indicate the number of years they have participated. Lead walkers will be the 2001 Heart Children, Timothy Streb, 5, of Warren, at Cafaro Field, a son of the late Janene Streb and grandson of Richard and Susan Streb of Warren, and Lily Hockenberry, 5, of Youngstown, at Boardman Township Park, daughter of Robert and Diane Hockenberry of Youngstown.
In charge: Serving as co-chairmen for the Trumbull County event are Amy Waid and Natalie Stein. Dean Rombach and Ken Seeds are co-chairmen for the Mahoning/Northern Columbiana walk. Committee members are Bob Clark, Monica Hall, Michalene Hughley, Ellen Millik-Jones, Valerie Liptak, Howard Lymor, Thomas John Meister, Carilyn Gulus-Needs, Abby Sferra and Karen Whistler.
