Jury finds man guilty of assault

WARREN -- A Trumbull County Common Pleas jury deliberated about six hours before finding a 27-year-old city man guilty of felonious assault, with a specification that a gun was used in the commission of the crime.
The jury, which began hearing the case Monday, also found DeShawn Pruitt of Lerner Avenue innocent of attempted murder.
Judge Andrew Logan sentenced Pruitt to seven years in prison. He could have received up to 13 years, court officials said.
City police said Pruitt shot Arthur Drayton of Van Wye Street S.E. in the arm May 18. Drayton testified during the trial that he was inside his apartment when Pruitt entered with a woman whom Drayton had been arguing with earlier in the day. The woman, Tiona Jones, is Pruitt's sister, court officials said.
Police declined to say why Jones and Drayton were arguing.
Jones, 19, of Thomas Road, is facing charges of attempted murder and felonious assault. She has pleaded innocent and is being held in the county jail in lieu of $125,000.
Jones' indictment states she "solicited or recruited" Pruitt to shoot Drayton.
