NORTH JACKSON Board votes to approve raises for superintendent, principals



NORTH JACKSON -- The Jackson-Milton Board of Education approved 2-percent salary increases for the district superintendent, and high school and elementary principals.
The board voted Thursday to raise the salary of Superintendent Warne Palmer to $74,417, said Treasurer John Zinger.
The salary of high school principal Joe Malmisur will increase to $66,855. Elementary school principal Kirk Baker will earn $63,562.
This was the board's first meeting since state Auditor Jim Petro returned fiscal control of the district to the board in July.
The district had been run by a state oversight commission since Petro had declared a fiscal emergency in 1998.
Also at the Thursday meeting:
UBaker reported that kindergartners will attend class all day for the first time beginning this school year. And 141 elementary students will receive backpacks full of school supplies donated by the West Side Salvation Army.
The backpacks will go first to fourth-graders. Baker said the school also has new and renovated playground equipment through a $10,000 recycling grant, a $5,000 PTA donation and some elbow grease from the Future Farmers of America.
UThe board approved the appointment of Todd Dolwick as specific learning Disabilities Teacher at a salary of $27,645.
UThe board appointed Jacie Paulsey assistant junior high volleyball coach, Ed Rankin as junior high head football coach and David Yargo as junior high assistant football coach.
UBoard members approved a $50,976 bid from Myers Equipment for a new school bus.
