CANFIELD -- The fifth annual Safety Village, sponsored by St. Elizabeth Health Center's trauma services department, will be from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. next Thursday on the infield of the racetrack at the Canfield Fairgrounds. Children will participate in activities to learn about safety, and St. Elizabeth's will offer free children's fingerprinting. Children must be accompanied by an adult.
Free country concert
HERMITAGE, Pa. -- Country music singer Mark Wills will give a free concert to celebrate the opening of the new Library of the Future at Hickory High School. The show will be at 7 p.m. Tuesday at Hickory High football practice field, 411 N. Hermitage Road. Seating will be on the grass.
Wills sings a duet with Jamie O'Neal on his new album, "Lovin' Every Minute," which was released this week.
Blue Streak upkeep
CONNEAUT LAKE, Pa. -- Friends of Conneaut Lake Park are raising money for routine maintenance of the Blue Streak, the amusement park's 61-year-old wooden roller coaster. A recent "Blue Streak Challenge," in which eight coaster fans rode the Blue Streak repeatedly in a 12-hour period, netted nearly $3,500 in pledges. Auditions for Palooza
CLEVELAND -- Playhouse Square Center has issued a call for talented amateur individuals and groups from northeast Ohio to try out for Palooza, an arts festival set for Sept. 16. Performers will be divided into three age groups: Junior, for children ages 6 to 12; Senior, ages 13 to 18; and Adult, ages 19 and older. Categories will be music, both vocal and instrumental; dance; and variety. Acts will have four minutes on Sept. 5 or 8 to impress the judges, who will choose 12 finalists from each category. More Cruise control
Actor Tom Cruise has expanded his $100 million defamation suit against erotic wrestler Kyle Bradford, also known as Chad Slater, to include the grappler's ex-wife as a defendant.
Cruise, you might recall, accuses Bradford of spreading false rumors that the two men had an affair while Cruise was married to Nicole Kidman.
In a four-page amendment to his LA Superior Court suit, Cruise also accuses Bradford's ex-wife, Kristina Ann Kirstin, of peddling the bogus tale to the National Enquirer.
The actor, no friend of the tabloids, describes the Enquirer in court papers as "a gossip tabloid that pays supposed 'sources' for titillating but often false stories." The amended suit, like the original, vehemently states that Cruise is not gay and has never met Bradford. Celebrity attorney Bert Fields is handling the case for Cruise. Kirstin could not be reached.
