RECOMMENDED Commission nominees

Mayor James Melfi and Leo Grimes, city council president, have provided the names of five men to serve on the seven-member state fiscal planning commission to dig the city out of debt. The governor will select three from the five. Recommended are:
Charles W. Syak: A founder of Syro Steel Co. Syak, 86, is a 1934 graduate of Girard High School, studied engineering and served as an Army civil engineer and draftsman during World War II. He was one of three founders of Syro. He served as president and chief executive officer and secretary-treasurer before retiring in 1992, when the company had $100 million in sales.
Carl D. Culp: Executive vice president and chief financial officer of Farmers National Bank. From 1985 to 1989, he was senior accountant with Hill, Barth & amp; King LLC, certified public accountants. He received his bachelor's degree in business administration in 1985 from Youngstown State University and graduated in 1997 from the University of Wisconsin's School of Banking.
Atty. John J. Masternick: Corporate attorney for Windsor House Inc., a management company for multiple long-term care and assisted-living facilities with management of more than 1,100 staff members. He's owner/manager of Trade Masters Medical, developer/owner/operator of Medi-Rx Pharmacy and Premier Therapy and owner/operator of LTC Management. He is a former city prosecutor. Masternick received his bachelor's degree in economics in 1986 from Oberlin College and law degree from University of Florida in 1990. He is Grimes' brother-in-law.
Robert L. Delisio: President and chief operating officer of Landmark Group, a group of privately owned companies engaged in acquisition and collection of distressed loans, real estate investments and related real estate services. Delisio received his bachelor's degree in business from Kent State University.
Frank L. Rich: Appointed by Melfi in 2000 as Girard's director of safety and human resources. He was executive vice president of administration at Easco Aluminum until 1998. He received his bachelor's degree in business in 1970 from YSU.
