GIRARD -- Girard schools is sponsoring a school-community fall kickoff Thursday night at the stadium.
Band members and fall athletic squads will be introduced at 6 p.m., with a cookout and bonfire to follow.
Man charged with DUI after collision
GIRARD -- A Girard man whose vehicle collided with a city police car Monday has been charged with driving under the influence and failure to yield.
Authorities said the blood-alcohol level of William R. Fannin, 74, of Patrick Drive was 0.211, more than twice the legal limit of 0.10.
According to the accident report completed by the Trumbull County Sheriff's Office, Fannin was driving a Ford Bronco eastbound along Church Hill-Hubbard Road shortly before 11 p.m. and turned into the path of the cruiser driven by Patrol Officer Jeffrey Cramer, 41, at Washington Street.
Fannin remains in stable condition in St. Elizabeth Health Center. Cramer was treated at Northside Medical Center.
Bristol Homecoming
BRISTOLVILLE -- The Bristol Homecoming celebration, featuring a parade, pageants and a 5K run, is this weekend in the township park.
Registration for the run starts at 8 a.m. Saturday.
The queen's pageant begins at 7 p.m. Friday, and the junior and little queen pageants are Saturday morning.
Car and tractor shows also are on tap Saturday afternoon. A parade begins at 5 p.m.
Executive session
CHAMPION -- The board of education will meet in executive session at 4 p.m. Thursday in the superintendent's office in Central Elementary School.
Wee School open house
WARREN -- The Wee School at the Rebecca Williams Education Center will have open house Friday from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. Parents of preschool age children are invited to learn about activities planned for the year.
The center, at 421 Main St. S.W., is part of Trumbull Lifelines, Trumbull County's network of 23 agencies dealing with the prevention and treatment of alcohol, drug and mental health problems.
Supervisor to be chosen
HOWLAND -- The Trumbull Soil and Water Conservation District will elect a supervisor at a pig roast from 4 to 7 p.m. Sept. 8 in Howland Township Park, Lake Pavilion. The cost is $7 for adults; children 12 and under eat free.

Council to meet
WARREN -- The Trumbull Area Reading Council will meet at 5:30 p.m. Sept. 24 in DiLucia's Restaurant in Warren.
Membership is open to anyone interested in reading and literacy.

Founders Day dinner
NILES -- The Mahoning Valley Historical Society's Founders Day dinner will be Sept. 11 at the McKinley Memorial at 40 N. Main St.
A 5:30 p.m. social hour will be followed by dinner at 6:30 p.m.
Rick Shale, Youngstown State University professor of English and American studies, is the featured speaker. The author of "Idora Park: The Last Ride of Summer," he will talk about and present a slide show on Idora Park.

Road closed for 1 day
SHEAKLEYVILLE, Pa.-- County Line Road in Deer Creek Township in northern Mercer County will be closed Tuesday for bridge maintenance. Motorists can detour on state Route 173, Sheakleyville-Milledgeville Road and Georgetown Road.
