PORTABLE BASSINETS
What: About 569,000 Fisher-Price portable bassinets.
Reason: Children and adults can get their fingers pinched, cut or broken by the bassinet's folding mechanism. There have been 24 reports of such accidents occurring.
Description: The recalled portable bassinets were sold under the names Sit & amp; Soothe Portable Bassinet, Soothing Sounds Bassinet and Soothing Sounds Portable Bassinet. "Fisher-Price" and the model number 79338, 79334 or 79336 appear on the upper left-hand corner of a white nylon label on the underside of the foot of the bassinet.
Sold from: November 1997 through March 2001 at toy, mass merchandise and discount stores nationwide for about $50.
What to do: Stop using the bassinets immediately and contact Fisher-Price at (800) 285-0324 to order a free repair kit, which will prevent the frame from folding. Information on the recall also is available at http://fisher-price.com/
SAFETY LATCHES
What: About 1.7 million packages of Safety 1st cabinet and drawer safety latches.
Reason: If the safety latch breaks, a small spring could be released, presenting a choking hazard to young children as well as allowing young children access to a cabinet or drawer where dangerous items are stored. There have been 27 reports of the latches breaking. In one instance, a 2-year-old girl opened a cabinet protected by the safety latch and sprayed tile cleaner into her mouth. She received chemical burns to her throat.
Description: The white plastic latches have "Safety 1st" written on the top. They were sold in a package containing three or four latches.
Sold from: January 1993 through December 1999 at toy, hardware and department stores nationwide for about $7.
