It's now known as 10 Pin Alley and boasts a high-tech light and sound show.
HERMITAGE, Pa. -- The Hickory Bowl at 3825 E. State St. has been a recreational fixture in the Shenango Valley for four decades but the new owners say the regulars won't recognize it when it reopens Friday as 10 Pin Alley.
Gene and Janet Buzzeo have spent about $1.5 million to create what they say is the most technologically advanced bowling center between Cleveland and Pittsburgh.
They've kept but refinished the wooden lanes and approaches but have added a fully automated scoring system and a laser light and sound show they call "Buzz Bowl."
The lanes are equipped with black lights and fog and smoke machines and there are glow-in-the-dark shoes, pins, balls, lanes, carpeting and fixtures.
The automated scoring system will enable the area to again attract state and national bowling tournaments, the Buzzeos said.
There are also online cameras that can be used to provide a training mode so bowlers can see their shots and work on their technique as they play.
Bar and grille: They have also created Buzzy's Sports Bar and Grille featuring a full-service kitchen as well as five large-screen televisions with zoned sound systems.
It will be open for lunch and dinner as well as late snacks and will feature live bands and DJs in the coming months, offering everything from oldies to jazz.
A grand opening celebration begins at 7 p.m. Friday with an "inaugural roll-off" and the opening of the lanes followed by music by The Party Machine from 9:30 p.m. to 1:30 a.m.
The celebration will continue with a Hot 101 remote broadcast from 8 to 10 p.m. Saturday and specials on bowling and food and Sunday will feature family bowling specials from 11 a.m. to 11 p.m.
League play begins Aug. 27 and there are openings for bowlers at all skill levels.
