VETERANS
Navy lieutenant
Sherri Lynn Rudinsky, born in Youngstown, graduated from the Uniformed Services University of Health Sciences, P. Edward Herbert School of Medicine, Bethesda, Md., with a medical degree in pediatrics. At the same time, she was commissioned a lieutenant in the Navy. Her internship is at Naval Medical Center, San Diego, Calif. While at UHUSH, she attended the American Academy of Pediatrics annual meeting in Chicago as the school representative and was named a member of Alpha Omega Alpha Medical Honor Society.
Rudinsky graduated from high school in Charleston, W.Va., and graduated in 1997 from the Naval Academy with a bachelor of science degree in chemistry.
She is a daughter of Bill and Ann Rudinsky, formerly of Youngstown, now of Belpre, Ohio, and a granddaughter of Fred and Claire Rudinsky of Liberty and Stanley and Katharine Cichon of Youngstown.
Free health tests
The Department of Veterans Affairs Medical Center at Butler will provide free health evaluations and screenings to veterans from 9 a.m. 1 p.m. Tuesday at 325 New Castle Road, Butler, Pa.

Meritorious Service
Army Sgt. 1st Class Byron K. Mitchell has received the Meritorious Service Medal. He is an operations supervisor assigned at Schofield Barracks, Oahu, Hawaii. He is a son of Maggie Mitchell, 1047 Fairview Ave., Youngstown.

Several area residents have graduated from basic military training. They include:
Army: National Guard Pvt. Robert E. Patrick (Boardman High School, Youngstown '00), a son of Robert and Mary Patrick, Brainard Drive, Youngstown; National Guard Pvt. Serena Mullen (Crestview High School, Columbiana '97); Pvt. Jeffrey S. Peoples, a son of Jeffrey Peoples, 409 Burke St., and Claudia Baumgartner, 5 W. Moody Ave., both of New Castle, Pa.
PROMOTIONS
Armor officer
Michael P. Groom graduated from 14-week Officer Candidate School (OCS) at Fort Benning, Ga., and was commissioned as a second lieutenant in the Army. Groom is an armor officer assigned to the 3rd Battalion, 11th Infantry, Fort Benning.
He is a son of Michael B. and Mary J. Groom, 3150 Draper St. S.E., Howland. His wife, Laurie, is a daughter of Linda Herdnan, 8958 Cain Drive, Howland. Groom graduated in 1988 from Howland High School and received an associate degree in 1995 from Fayetteville State University, N.C.

Primary Leadership
Army Spec. John E. Bartley graduated from the five-week Primary Leadership Development Course (PLDC) at Fort Stewart, Ga. Bartley is a son of Alice Bartley, 1530 Harlansburg Road, New Castle, Pa.
Food service course
Army Reserve Pvt. Nathan A. Nych and Army Pfc. Regina R. Maddox graduated from the food service specialist advanced individual training course at Fort Lee, Va. Nych's parents are John M. and Charlene R. Nych, 3227 Bethel New Wilmington Road, New Wilmington, Pa. He is a 1998 graduate of West Middlesex High School, Pa.
Maddox is a daughter of Katherine McCall, 259 Wychwood Lane, Youngstown, and is a 1989 graduate of Youngstown East High School.
ROTC camp
Deana M. Soffos and Mark J. Geisler graduated from the Army Reserve Officer Training Corps (ROTC) Advanced Camp at Fort Lewis, Wash.
Soffos is a student at the University of Dayton. She is a daughter of Nancy S. Soffos, 278 Brookfield Ave., Youngstown, and Michael P. Soffos of Florida. She is a 1998 graduate of Cardinal Mooney High School, Youngstown.
Geisler is a student at Youngstown State University. His parents are Mark J. and Mary A. Geisler, 449 Greenmont Drive, Canfield.
Supply specialist
Army Pvt. Norma Crago graduated from the unit supply specialist course at Fort Jackson, S.C. She is a daughter of William C. Crago, 15628 Johnson Road, Lisbon, and Micki A. Crago, 1001 Ambrose St., East Liverpool. She is a 2000 graduate of Beaver Local High School, Lisbon.
YOUNGSTOWN AIR STATION
Staff sergeant
Air Force Staff Sgt. Gary G. Weaver has arrived for duty at Youngstown Air Reserve Station, Vienna. He is a son of Ellis C. and Chiyako K. Weaver, 5001 Nectar Road, Salineville, and is a 1990 graduate of Carrollton High School.
