MAHONING COUNTY Officials brace for funding battle

About 4,000 dogs from the United States and Canada participated in the Steel Valley Cluster the weekend of Aug. 4 at the Canfield Fairgrounds. Here are the results taken from the seven areas of competition (obedience is a separate competition):
Sporting group winner (702 dogs). Breed: Brittany; name: Champion Magic Sir-ly You Jest; owner: Carolee Douglas.
Hound group winner (693 dogs). Breed: English foxhound; name: Champion Whipperinn Virgil J; owners: Dr. William Newman, Art Johnson and Cynthia Stewart.
Working group winner (653 dogs). Breed: St. Bernard; name: Champion Trust's Gentle Ben V Slaton; owners: Linda Bulicz, Janet Lange, Shirley and Joe Wolf.
Terrier group winner (418 dogs). Breed: Kerry Blue terrier; name: Champion Torums Scarf Michael; owner: Marilu Hansen.
Toy group winner (528 dogs). Breed: Affenpinscher; name: Champion Yarrow's Super Nova; owners: Dr. and Mrs. William Truesdale.
Nonsporting group winner (330 dogs). Breed: Chinese Shar Pei; name: Champion Asia's Toon Towne Northern Lights; owners: Romona Arnold and Mark Berber.
Herding group winner (375 dogs). Breed: German shepherd; name: Jo-Win's Concho; owners: Dale and Margie Crutchfield.
Highest scoring dog in obedience competition (133 dogs). Breed: Golden retriever; name: National Obedience Champion Obedience Trial Champion Sunfire's Toast of the Town; owner: Lynn Heidinger.
Best in Show: Kerry Blue terrier.
Best junior handler (out of 45 juniors ages 10 to 18): Samantha Waldorf.
