YOUNGSTOWN Crusade offers food

YOUNGSTOWN -- A food giveaway is part of a three-day Christian rally at the former Tod School on Brier Hill.
The event is part of the buildup to the HOPE 2001 Crusade that will be Oct. 21-24 at Stambaugh Auditorium.
The crusade's committee and the Jericho Project are sponsoring the event from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. Wednesday through Friday, said the Rev. Rafael Cruz, one of Jericho's leaders.
The Jericho Project has held a number of inner-city crusades and programs in recent years. Almost 40,000 pounds of food will be given away the first evening, said the Rev. Mr. Cruz.
Any remaining food will be given away Thursday, said Mr. Cruz. Packets of school supplies will be given away that night to the first 100 children.
Activities: On Friday, Heart Reach, a Youngstown-based ministry, will provide skits and other activities. There will be various speakers and musicians performing during the event.
The food was provided by In Spirit and In Truth Fellowship in Trumbull County, which also provided a 250-person tent that will be used during the services. The school supplies were donated by the Fellowship of Christian Adult Singles at New Life Assembly of God in Poland.
"We're taking God's evangelism to the city by bringing God's promises to the people," Mr. Cruz said.
