Police probe case of drug prescriptions

Friday, August 17, 2001

AUSTINTOWN -- Police are investigating allegations that a 30-year-old Burkey Road woman tricked two doctors into prescribing her Vicodin with a third doctor ordering her another prescription of the addictive pain reliever that has a narcotic component.
One of the doctor's offices called police Thursday saying the woman had six prescriptions filled between May 14 and Aug. 13, with 15 and 40 pills in each prescription, police said.
The doctor's employee also said the woman received the drug twice in June from the emergency room at Forum Health Northside Medical Center, Youngstown, and was picking up her prescriptions at two pharmacies, police said.
The office employee added that the woman was seeing two more doctors and had requested OxyContin, another addictive pain reliever that is a form of synthetic morphine.
She had not been charged as of this morning.
