Paint spill after crash closes 534

NEWTON FALLS -- The Trumbull County Hazmat Team cleaned up about 150 gallons of paint, paint thinner and other paint products that spilled from a truck onto state Route 534 late Thursday after the truck collided head-on with a van.
The accident occurred at 5:50 p.m. near Stevens Street, just outside the Newton Falls city limits.
The van driver, Mindy L. Cashman, 19, of Lake Milton, who suffered a leg injury, was in stable condition in Trumbull Memorial Hospital. The truck driver, Michael D. Sigler, 47, of Wooster, was not hurt.
State Route 534 was closed until 9:30 p.m. for the cleanup, and police were detouring traffic onto state Route 5 and Fairport Street.
Newton Falls firefighters, Newton and Braceville township police and representatives of the Public Utilities Commission of Ohio and a salvage and towing company were on the scene, according to Terry Coons, assistant Newton Falls fire chief.
As she approached a pickup truck that had stopped in front of her in preparation for a left turn into a private drive, Cashman lost control of the van and it went left of center and collided with the paint-carrying truck, according to the Ohio State Highway Patrol.
Cashman was cited for failure to control a vehicle.
