5K competition set
VIENNA -- Runners will compete at the Youngstown-Warren Regional Airport from 7 to 10 p.m. Saturday. The 5-kilometer (3.1- mile) race on the airport's 9,003 foot runway is sponsored by the Western Reserve Port Authority and Youngstown Rotary. Registration is $12. Forms can be obtained the day of the race or ahead of time at the airport manager's office.
Rules on open burning
MINERAL RIDGE -- Weathersfield Township Fire Chief Randy Pugh is reminding residents that Ohio Environmental Protection Agency rules prohibit open burning statewide. Pugh said if firefighters receive a complaint, they will respond and put the fire out the first time and issue a verbal warning; the second call will result in a written warning and the third call will result in a citation.
