Police find OxyContin
AUSTINTOWN -- Police found several OxyContin pills in the possession of a 42-year-old Cannon Road man arrested Sunday afternoon on a charge of impaired driving. The man was questioned by police after he drove over the lane markers and sat for nearly a minute at a green light on Four Mile Run Road. Police said the man's eyes were glassy and his speech was slurred.
The man told police he was taking OxyContin and Hydrocodone for back and leg pain. Both are painkillers that can be habit forming.
The man gave police an unmarked bottle containing 69 OxyContin pills and nine Hydrocodone pills.
Temporary closing
AUSTINTOWN -- North Main Street between Oakwood and Stambaugh avenues will be closed for about two months beginning today. A detour is provided along Oakwood, Stambaugh and Westminster avenues. The road is being closed for replacement of a bridge and drain channel.
Counterfeit bill report
AUSTINTOWN -- Police are investigating a report of a man who tried to get change for a counterfeit $20 at two area motels early Sunday.
A clerk at the Motel 6 on Seventy-Six Drive told police the man asked about change for the $20 around 12:30 a.m. Sunday. Police say the man also tried to get change for the $20 at a nearby Econolodge.
Neither hotel would give him change.
Police found the $20 in an area parking lot. They could not find the man.
Man subdued after fight
AUSTINTOWN -- Police reports say that officers subduedd and handcuffed a man early Sunday after a fight at a Mahoning Avenue bar.
The officers found the man swinging his fists at a crowd at 12:21 a.m. in the parking lot ofr Sandy's Bar and Grille. The man said he and his brother were taken out of the bar after getting into a fight.
Police told the man not to return to the bar. He was not charged.
Pop prompts arrest
BOARDMAN -- A 38-year-old man was arrested Saturday afternoon at the Rib Burn Off after throwing pop on a Mahoning County deputy sheriff and a Boardman Township police officer.
Sheriff's reports say the man tried to get the attention of the officer and the deputy while he was standing in front of the stage at the Rib Burn Off at Southern Park Mall. However, the officer and the deputy said they couldn't hear the man due to the volume of the band.
The man eventually threw a bottle cap at the officer and the deputy. He also threw his pop at them and spit at them. The man struggled with the officer and deputy when they tried to arrest him.
The man was charged with two counts of assaulting a police officer, disorderly conduct and resisting arrest.
Steel Street project
YOUNGSTOWN -- A portion of Steel Street will be closed for about three weeks beginning today as part of the street rehabilitation project. The stretch of Steel Street between Silliman Street and Salt Springs Road will undergo full-depth pavement removal and replacement. A detour is provided.
