Mall restaurant fire
NILES -- Firefighters extinguished a blaze caused by grease on the stove at an Eastwood Mall restaurant Sunday afternoon.
The flames at Asian Chao caused about $3,000 damage. No one was injured. The mall's sprinkler system contained the fire until firefighters arrived to put it out.
The restaurant was closed after the fire, according to the fire department. The city health department was expected to inspect the restaurant today to ensure that it's safe to reopen for business.
Cop bitten during arrest
WARREN -- Although police usually try to take a "bite out of crime," one Warren woman is accused of taking a bite out of an officer. According to police reports, Lea Dotson, 22, bit Officer Manny Nites on the right wrist, breaking skin, while being arrested after a fight at 3205 Lynwood N.W. early Saturday. Dotson was arrested on charges of obstructing official business and resisting arrest. Police arrested four others on disorderly conduct charges: Yujuan Douglas, 24; Willie Owens, 24; and Terrance Eddington Jr., 22, all of Warren, and Garridan Matlock, 25, of Youngstown. All five are scheduled to appear in municipal court later today.
Ministerial fund-raiser
WARREN -- The Trumbull County Interdenominational Ministerial Alliance Community Outreach Program will have its annual fund-raiser at 6 p.m. Friday in DiVieste Banquet Center, 754 N. River Road N.W.
The Rev. Dr. Timothy Clarke, formerly of Warren, is the guest speaker. Tickets are $50.
ACOP was founded in November 1999 as an outreach center focusing on youth activities, computer classes and leadership development.
Mosquito spraying
HOWLAND -- Alexander Pest Control will spray for mosquitos from 9 p.m. until 5 a.m. Aug. 20 and 21. In event of rain, the spraying will be the following evenings.
Township officials said residents should close their windows, keep pets indoors and not leave food outdoors during the spraying.
Teen advisers sought
WARREN -- The Warren-Trumbull County Public Library seeks teen-agers to serve on a board which plans programs and services to attract their peers to the library.
In the past, the Teen Advisory Board has organized book discussions, poster contests, game nights and a hip-hop program, officials said.

Abandoned boat foundnear Ohio-Pa. line
HILLSVILLE, Pa. -- A boat, possibly owned by someone from Struthers, was found abandoned near Quaker Heights Road at the Ohio-Pennsylvania state line. Pennsylvania State Police said the 11-foot Jon fishing boat was found at 10:50 a.m. Sunday. It contained information that is was registered in Ohio, possibly the Struthers area, police said. No other details were available. The owner of the boat should call the Pennsylvania State Police at (724) 598-2211.
Fake designer items
LISBON -- Eight adults face charges this week in the sale of counterfeit designer sunglasses and clothing at the Rogers Auction, Detective Andy Sweeney of the Columbiana County Sheriff's Department said this morning. He said detectives confiscated merchandise and vehicles from 12 stands at the sale Friday. Detectives made a similar raid at the sale last year, and also one in 1996, Sweeney said.
Water balloon lobbing
YOUNGSTOWN -- One of three or four teen-age boys throwing water balloons at cars traveling on Hudson Avenue on the South Side about 10:30 p.m. Sunday was caught and held for police by a passenger in a car that had been hit. The 14-year-old Hudson Avenue boy was charged with criminal mischief and was issued a summons to appear in juvenile court. The police report says teen-agers in that area have twice been warned by police about throwing water balloons at cars, which can cause accidents. The boy caught refused to identify who had been with him and was released to his mother.
N. Main Street closed
AUSTINTOWN -- North Main Street between Oakwood and Stambaugh avenues will be closed for about two months beginning today. A detour is provided along Oakwood, Stambaugh and Westminster avenues.
