SLIPPERY ROCK SRU gets $3M in gifts, resulting in a record

Individuals donated 82 percent of the total. The gifts were made as part of a comprehensive fundraising effort.
SLIPPERY ROCK, Pa. -- Slippery Rock University received charitable gifts totaling $3,042,404 from nearly 6,000 donors during the fiscal year ending June 30, a record-breaking year topping the university's previous high mark by $1.25 million.
School officials said it was the first time total charitable gifts during a fiscal year hit the $3 million plateau in the university's history.
"We are most thankful for this tremendous display of support from the university's constituents," said President G. Warren Smith.
Setting the pace: Individuals set the pace during the record year in philanthropy and provided 82% of the total by contributing slightly more than $2.5 million, they said. Half was given by university friends, who contributed $1.5 million. Charitable gifts from alumni accounted for $958,552 and provided 32% of the record. Corporations donated $352,000, and contributions from foundations and associations were nearly $190,000 for the year, officials reported.
Smith also noted that all gifts will be counted as part of The Campaign for Slippery Rock University, announced last January as a comprehensive effort to raise $11 million by Dec., 31, 2005.
"This year's record giving certainly gives strong momentum to the campaign," he said. "The fact that so many individuals and organizations consider Slippery Rock University a solid investment for their charitable dollars is a tremendous source of inspiration as we continue to work toward success of The Campaign for Slippery Rock University."
