Squad disposes of dynamite sticks

ST. CLAIR -- The Youngstown Police Department bomb squad was called to Columbiana County Friday evening to dispose of several sticks of dynamite.
Detective Sgt. Joseph DeMatteo, the squad's unit commander, said between eight and 10 sticks of old dynamite were found in an abandoned trailer on Carroll Avenue in St. Clair Township. The dynamite was in a bag. He did not say who found the dynamite.
"It was in pretty bad shape," DeMatteo said of the dynamite.
The bomb squad arrived at the trailer at about 6:45 p.m., evacuated the area, and disposed of the dynamite, DeMatteo said.
He said the trailer had been owned by a man who liked to handle dynamite.
St. Clair Township is in southeast Columbiana County.
