Bike safety check
CANFIELD -- Bike riders can receive a free bike inspection, safety equipment check, suggestions and information from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. Aug. 19 in the parking lot of Canfield Tire Inc. at Mill Creek Metro Park bike path and U.S. Route 224.
Canfield Police Department, Mahoning Valley Safety Communities, Mill Creek Metro Park Police Department and Austintown-Glenwood Cycle Inc. are sponsoring the safety check. For more information, contact Canfield Officer Jim Schmidt at (330) 533-4903.
Zoning amendment
MINERAL RIDGE -- Weathersfield Township trustees will consider an amendment to the zoning ordinance approved by the zoning commission this week that would add two alternate members to both the zoning commission and the board of zoning appeals.
Trustees also will set a rate of pay for the alternates, should they approve the change, said Sherri Craver, assistant zoning inspector.
Each board has five members. The alternates would sit in place of missing members to prevent meetings from being canceled because of a lack of quorum.
School registration
WEATHERSFIELD -- Registration for pupils new to the school district will be from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Monday through Wednesday.
Pupils in kindergarten through fourth grade should register at Seaborn Elementary School. Birth certificates, immunization records, pupils' social security numbers and proof of residency are required. Legal proof of custody also must be provided if the pupil's parents are divorced or separated.
Students in grades five through eight should register at Mineral Ridge Middle School, and those in grades nine through 12 should register at the high school from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Monday through Wednesday.
Students should report to the principal's office, and the same documentation is required. High school students also must provide a copy of their transcripts.
