Crew removes suspect items

YOUNGSTOWN -- The sweat from four candidates for the Youngstown Police Department bomb squad probably hadn't dried in the 80-pound Kevlar suits yet.
But that didn't stop the current squad members from putting on the suits Thursday afternoon, when they were asked to handle some suspicious packages on Lansdowne Boulevard.
Police were called to Lansdowne about 3 p.m. Thursday by a homeowner who had found some suspicious containers in his basement. A black powder was found in the containers.
Squad members later destroyed the containers. There were no injuries.
Police are investigating.
