WEATHERSFIELD SCHOOLS Education board approves increase in cost of lunches

MINERAL RIDGE -- The cost of a school lunch for the 1,100 Weathersfield Local Schools students being fed daily at three buildings will increase this year, after remaining the same since 1992.
The board of education approved an increase in lunch prices Tuesday for students at Seaborn Elementary, the middle school and the high school.
Increases include: milk, from 30 cents to 35 cents; adult lunch, from $2.20 to $2.50; kindergarten through fourth-grade lunch, from $1.50 to $1.60; fifth- through eighth-grade lunch, $1.75 to $1.85; and ninth- through 12th-grade lunch, $1.95 to $2.15.
School superintendent Rocco Aducci noted that the school cafeteria has to be self-sufficient.
The board also approved change orders Tuesday for the Joe Lane Sports Complex to allow for a $150,000 increase in costs because both the concession stand/restrooms and the field house have been made larger. A donation of $1,000 from James Stoddard toward the complex was also accepted.
In personnel matters, the board accepted the resignation of maintenance supervisor Ron Lovell, effective Tuesday, and transferred Shirley Koppel, who had been a part-time tutor at the middle school, to the high school as an English teacher at $32,155 a year. She will fill a vacancy left by a resignation.
The board will meet in regular session at 6 p.m. Aug. 21 at the high school.
