Reopening is set for Belmont bridge

NILES -- The Belmont Avenue bridge over the Mahoning River will reopen Thursday.
A ribbon-cutting ceremony is set for 10:30 a.m. The bridge has been closed since October 2000. Replacement was required because of deterioration.
The span is one of two in the city that crosses the river. The other bridge, the state Route 46 viaduct, also is set for replacement starting next year. That project is expected to take more than two years to complete.
Completion of the Belmont project was required for the viaduct replacement project to move forward, according to the Trumbull County Engineer's office.
The $850,552 Belmont Avenue bridge project expanded a two-span truss bridge to a three-span concrete bridge with steel beams. The project also added 450 feet of sidewalk and 470 feet of curb.
Lynn, Kittinger & amp; Noble of Warren designed the project and BOG Construction Co. of Berlin Center did the work.
