Road warriors: The Mariners are 45-15 in road games and have not lost a series away from Safeco Field.
No place like home? The Indians went 2-5 against the Oakland Athletics and Mariners, and were outscored 65-39. The Indians are 30-29 at Jacobs Field.
To the bullpen: Indians manager Charlie Manuel says Dave Burba (9-8, 6.65 earned-run average) has been demoted to the bullpen. Burba was torched for seven runs in his two innings-plus outing Sunday. Manuel said Steve Woodard, who started Saturday's game against the Mariners and pitched one out Monday, will start Friday's game in Texas.
On deck: The Indians hit the road for a six-game trip to Minnesota and Texas. The Indians' next homestand will be Aug. 14-19 against the Twins and Anaheim Angels. Ticket availability for the Twins games is: 2,000 for Aug. 14, 4,000 for Aug. 15 and 4,400 for Aug. 16. The Angels series from Aug. 17-19 is sold out.
On the mound: Tribe rookie left-hander C.C. Sabathia (10-4, 4.62 earned-run average) pitches against Minnesota's Rick Reed (1-0, 3.00) tonight at 8. Wednesday's game has been moved up to a 7 p.m. start. Bartolo Colon (10-8, 4.25) faces Kyle Lohse (3-4, 5.98). Thursday at 1 p.m., Chuck Finley (4-4, 4.65) comes off the disabled list for his first start since late June to face the Twins' Eric Milton (10-4, 4.27). That game will not be televised.
Old mark: Before wiping out a 12-run deficit Sunday against the Mariners, the Indians' record had been 10 runs. In September, 1984, the Indians trailed the Twins 10-0 at Cleveland Stadium, then rallied for an 11-10 win.
Comeback: Mariners second baseman Bret Boone wasn't surprised at his team's quick start after Sunday's frustrating loss. "I knew we would -- we've done it all year. Last night sucked and everybody was a little bit down, but I know that when we came into the clubhouse today, it was forgotten. It would have been easy to come in after last night and get our butts kicked, but we wanted to win this series and we went out and did it. I've never seen a team that I've played for like this." Boone's two hits included his 26th homer. He's the first AL second baseman to hit more than 25 homers since Lou Whitaker hit 28 in 1989.
Slugger: Indians first baseman Jim Thome has homered in 27 of his past 69 games and has an extra base hit in 35 of them. His 37 dingers leads the AL. Thome has hit 17 homers and 49 RBIs in 35 games.
Rookie of the year: Mariners right fielder Ichiro Suzuki went 3-for-5 with two doubles.
Hey Abbott! Seattle starter Paul Abbott won his 10th straight game. In his last 14 starts, he's 10-0 with a 3.59 ERA. In his career, he's 5-0 with a 2.77 ERA against the Indians.
