CHAMPION New law on zoning comes into play

Trustees hope to pave 12 to 14 roads this year.

CHAMPION -- Under Champion's new comprehensive plan, anyone building in the township must now put up the primary building first before any additional buildings.
Richard Schley asked trustees Monday for permission to build his barn first before the house on three acres. He said his wife plans to have a small farm and that he wants to build the barn first to house building materials for their two-story house. He added that they don't plan to live in the barn.
Trustees told Schley that because the township's new zoning laws require that the primary building be constructed first, he would have to apply to the Board of Zoning Appeals for a variance and also notify all adjoining property owners.
Businesses: Zoning inspector John Ghindia reported on three businesses, two moving into Champion and one changing its location.
The Post House Restaurant, well known in Parkman, will open in the newly remodeled former G.B. Brown Family Restaurant on Mahoning Avenue on Aug. 15.
All Creatures Animal Clinic on Mahoning Avenue moved down the street over the weekend to a larger facility.
Domino's Pizza will soon move in behind the Subway shop on Mahoning Avenue.
Paving: Bids will be opened at 8 a.m. Aug. 20 on a paving project. Trustee Jeff Hovanic said trustees expect to pave 12 to 14 roads this year with $75,000 in state Issue 2 money.
James Guzan, 220 Airport Road, was hired as a reserve firefighter/EMS, and a home occupation permit for dog grooming was approved for Gene and Linda Wesolowski at 265 Glendola Ave.
It was announced that the Wilcom communications tower will be repaired and landscaped, and trustees changed their September meeting to 6:30 p.m. Sept. 5 because their regular meeting day falls on Labor Day.
Trustees said they expect the bridge at Mahoning Avenue and Aspen Drive to close for repairs this week and to remain closed for about nine days.
