Youngstown places fourth in regional tournament



MATTOON, Ill. -- The Youngstown All-Star baseball team of 15-year-olds finished in fourth place in the Babe Ruth Regional Tournament.
Youngstown, the Ohio state champions, defeated Kentucky 3-2 Sunday before being eliminated by Indiana, 9-5.
In the win, Rick Banna pitched a four-hitter with seven strikeouts.
Joe Murray led the Youngstown batting attack with three hits. Josh Geric doubled to score the game-winning run.
In the loss, Jeremy Hartman and Adam Zakowsky scattered eight Indiana hits.
Geric led Youngstown with four hits, while Craig Dobos and Greg Rohan had two hits apiece.
Another win: Saturday, Youngstown defeated Wisconsin, 9-2.
Pitchers Dobos, Jay Yorty and Adam Zakowski combined to limit Wisconsin to two hits with eight strikeouts in the losers' bracket game of the double-elimination tournament.
Geric and Adam Boris each had two hits and drove in a combined five runs. Also with hits were Matt Guerrieri, Aaron Boris, Luke Srock and Banna.
