Players' annual revue
CANFIELD -- More than 150 junior-high and high school students will perform in Canfield Players' annual musical revue. Performances will be at 8 p.m. Thursday through Saturday in Canfield High School auditorium. The students will perform skits, songs and dances in groups of various sizes. Tickets are $6. Jazz CD release party
WARREN -- A release party for jazz pianist Joe Augustine's new CD, "Cool Today, Jazz Tonight," will be from 6:30 to 9:30 p.m. Aug. 23 at Avalon Inn and Resort, 9519 E. Market St. The Joe Augustine Trio, featuring Tim Powell on bass and J.R. Richley on drums, will play songs from the new CD, which is Augustine's 12th recording.
Tickets are $30. Cost includes hors d'oeuvres and an open beer and wine bar. Reservations are required; call the inn at (330) 856-1900.
Quartet performance
WARREN -- The Four Lads, featuring original vocal quartet member Bernie Toorish, will perform at noon at 8 p.m. Aug. 31 at Avalon Inn and Resort. Tickets for the afternoon show are $27 and include lunch. Evening show tickets, with dinner, are $37. Cash bar will be available at both shows. Songs by The Four Lads include "Moments to Remember," "No Not Much," "Istanbul" and "Down By the River Side."
History Club for kids
YOUNGSTOWN -- A Children's History Club, sponsored by Youngstown Historical Center of Industry and Labor, will begin Sept. 15 and run the third Saturday of each month through May.
The club will offer a series of educational and historical programs for children 6 to 13 years of age. Featured will be arts and crafts and historical and hands-on activities.
Cost for the programs is $10 each meeting of $80 for the series for historical society members, and $12 per meeting or $96 for the series for nonmembers. For additional information or to register call the center at (800) 262-6137.
Saturday dance program
SLIPPERY ROCK, Pa. -- Children ages 3 to 10 are the focus of a new Saturday dance program at Slippery Rock University. Leigh Puntureri, a junior dance major and Presidential Scholar, will teach classes in McKay Education Building dance studio. Sessions will begin Sept. 29 and continue for eight weeks.
"Creative Dance" at 9:15 a.m. Saturdays will be for children ages 3 and 4; a second creative dance class at 10:15 a.m. will be for children in Kindergarten and first grade; ballet will be at 11:15 a.m. for those age 7 to 10; and tap and jazz dance lessons will be at 12:30 p.m. for the 7-to-10-year-old group.
Cost is $40 for creative dance, $50 for ballet and tap classes. Call (724) 738-2633 to register.
