YOUNGSTOWN -- The Youngstown Area Community Action Council Head Start is seeking bids for mental health, speech pathology and audiology services for its Head Start 2001-02 school year. Mental-health professionals should have experience working with young children. All children in the program are required to have speech and hearing screenings, and evaluations and therapy are provided as needed. Bids must be submitted by 4 p.m. Monday to Lois J. Accreditation for lab
NEW CASTLE, Pa. -- Jameson Health System's new laboratory received the Accreditation with Distinction from the Commission on Laboratory Accreditation of the College of American Pathologists, based on an on-site inspection.
Baby-sitter training
BOARDMAN -- The American Red Cross Mahoning Chapter, 8392 Tod Ave., will offer baby-sitter instructor and baby-sitter training classes this month. The instructor class, $45, will be from 6-10 p.m. Aug. 20-21. The baby-sitter training class, $28, will be from 8:30 a.m.-5 p.m. Aug. 25. Call (330) 726-6063 for information and to register.

COAD (Corporation for Ohio Appalachian Development) Child Care Resource Network offers a free service to help parents find child-care providers in their area. Alzheimer's program

Center receives grant
YOUNGSTOWN -- The Donofrio Women's Center, 64 Ridge St., received a $133,426 grant for the fiscal year beginning July 1, 2001, and ending June 30, 2002, through the Ohio Department of Alcohol and Drug Addiction Services. The Donofrio Center is a residential facility that provides drug-treatment programs for women with children under age 5 and for pregnant women, Linda Haller, executive director of Mahoning County Addiction Programs.
Slimdown classes
St. Elizabeth Health Center will offer Slimdown classes, an eight-week program taught by clinical nutrition professionals, that provides an approach to permanent weight control through the development of healthy habits. Evaluations sessions for Slimdown will be at 10 a.m. Sept. 17 at HM Home Care, 5211 Mahoning Ave., Austintown, and at 1:30 p.m. at HM Health Partners Business Development office, 4964 Belmont Ave., Liberty; and 7 p.m. Sept. 19 at St. Elizabeth's Boardman Campus Cancer Center, 8401 Market St., Boardman. NEW CASTLE, Pa. -- The Lawrence County Diabetes Center at St. Francis Hospital offers comprehensive self-management classes and a support group for area residents with diabetes and their families. Center named as member
SHARON, Pa. -- Sharon Regional Health System's Cancer Care Center at 2320 Highland Road in Hermitage has been named an Active Institutional Member of the Association of Community Cancer Centers.
The association promotes cancer research, prevention, screening, early detection, diagnosis, treatment, psychosocial services, rehabilitation and hospice.
