Pastors named
WEST MIDDLESEX, Pa. -- The appointments by Bishop Donald W. Trautman of the Catholic Diocese of Erie has announced recent personnel changes.
The Rev. Howard King, a native of St. Joseph Parish in Sharon, has been named pastor of Church of the Good Shepherd Parish in West Middlesex.
Father King succeeds Monsignor Joseph Riccardo, who, will become pastor of Immaculate Conception Parish in Clarion. Father King, 64, who was ordained May 23, 1963, has been pastor at St. Francis of Assisi Parish in Bradford, Pa., since 1992.
Father Swacha, a native of Our Lady of Help of Christians Parish in Oil City, has been named pastor of Sacred Heart Parish in Sharon. The Rev. Mr. Swacha, 48, who was ordained May 4, 1979, has been pastor at St. Bernard Parish, Falls Creek, Pa., since 1989.
Trial sermon set
YOUNGSTOWN -- Richard Harris of Cleveland will give his trial sermon at 4 p.m. Sunday at Lighthouse Ministries Inc. He's been a member of the ministry since 1994. The 1968 graduate of South High School is working toward an applied science degree at Cuyahoga Community College.

Patron celebration
YOUNGSTOWN -- St. Rocco's Episcopal Church will have two events in honor of St. Rocco.
A celebration will follow a Mass at 10 a.m. Aug. 12. There will be an outdoor procession with a statute of St. Rocco and bagpipe music. There will be a pasta dinner from noon to 5 p.m. with music by John Gabrielle and other activities.
Mass will be celebrated at noon Aug. 16 on St. Rocco Day.
90th anniversary
YOUNGSTOWN -- Holy Trinity Ukrainian Catholic Church of the Eastern-Byzantine Rite will celebrate its 90th anniversary Aug. 12. During its history, the church has created a religion and cultural museum, cleaned up properties surrounding the church, and created an 80-foot cross in 1988 as a beacon of hope on the city's North Side.
Arts and drama
FARRELL, Pa. -- Triumph Christian Center Church will present a free arts and drama "explosion" at 6:30 p.m. today at Farrell High School Auditorium. The event will feature speakers, musicians, mime, and praise and worship teams from churches from Cleveland and the Mahoning and Shenango valleys.
Beacon of Hope
YOUNGSTOWN -- Tabernacle Baptist Church will have its annual Beacon of Hope: Creative Soul Extravaganza from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Aug 11. NEW CASTLE, Pa. -- Michael Brashear from Nashville, Tenn., will perform at 6 p.m. Sunday at Calvary Temple Worship Center.
Ride for Rescue
YOUNGSTOWN -- The Rescue Mission of Mahoning Valley will have the first Ride for Rescue to raise funds for the mission starting at 8 a.m. Aug. 11. Bicyclists or walkers should meet at the Youngstown Playhouse. They will travel through Mill Creek Park to Slippery Rock Pavilion for a picnic. To register, call (330) 744-5485. The mission plans to have the event annually.

YOUNGSTOWN -- The Rev. Albert Ross from New Grace Baptist Church will be the guest speaker when Elizabeth Missionary Baptist Church celebrates the 32 years of service by its pastor, the Rev. Henry Clinkscale Jr. The service is at 4 p.m. Sunday.
