SCHOLARSHIPS Le Cercle Francais holds competition



Reading comprehension, composition and speaking skills were judged for the annual event.
YOUNGSTOWN -- Le Cercle Francais of Northeastern Ohio and Western Pennsylvania held its annual scholarship competition March 31 at the Main Branch of the Youngstown Public Library. Ten junior and senior high school students participated in demonstrating their skills in reading comprehension, composition and speaking.
Jennifer Ortz of Boardman won first place and a $250 scholarship. Second- and third-place with awards of $150 and $100, respectively, were won by Cynthia Dimitriu of Boardman and Jerica Jefferson of Badger High School. Each of the winners also was given a book on Impressionism, and additional prizes were given to Nickole Moody and Jessica Williams of Wilson High School, Anthony Boulos of Canfield, Annie Houk of Springfield Local, Ruth Mosher of Austintown, Kertyssa Austin of Farrell Area High School and Heidi Cohen of Hickory High School. All competitors received a certificate of participation, and prize winners and their teachers were guests at the organization's spring banquet April 5 at the Saxon Club in Austintown.
Chairwoman of the event was Judith Stanger, and co-chairman was Michael Starr. Jury members were Mary Jane Lyden, Bernice Killa and Huguette Spenil. The welcoming committee was comprised by Virginia Schrum, Robalee Dinopoulos and Paul Dalbec.
