Farrell woman faces forgery, theft charges

HERMITAGE, Pa. -- Police have charged a Farrell woman with several counts of forgery and theft in three stolen-check cases.
Sonya K. Townsend, 33, of Market Avenue, was arrested Friday and arraigned before District Justice Henry Russo, who freed her on her own recognizance pending a preliminary hearing at a later date.
Police said Townsend was charged with forgery and receiving stolen property and corruption of a minor in a Feb. 13 case. Authorities say she had a 17-year-old cash a stolen $100 check at a Hermitage business. The check had been stolen in Sharon, police said.
Townsend was charged with forgery and receiving stolen property in a March 19 case in which she is accused of cashing a $650 check at a Hermitage business. That check was stolen in Farrell, police said.
Finally, Townsend was charged with forgery and receiving stolen property and theft in a Feb. 22 cash in which she is accused of using a stolen check to rent three movies and three video games from a Hermitage business.
The items were not returned and the loss was estimated at $300, police said.
