HIGH SCHOOLS Martin fans 14, fires two-hitter



Ursuline and Kennedy Christian lost games in the Ohio Parochial baseball tournament.
STRUTHERS -- Robb Martin threw a two-hitter with 14 strikeouts as Parma Padua defeated Kennedy Christian 8-2 in the Ohio Parochial baseball tournament at Cene Park Saturday.
Due to inclement weather, only half of the eight games scheduled Saturday were played in the eight-team field.
Tony Rossi had a single and a double to lead Kennedy Christian.
Walsh Jesuit scored three runs each in the third and fourth innings to beat Akron Hoban 8-1.
Toledo St. John's used a 10-hit attack to blank Ursuline 10-0 in six innings. St. John's scored in every inning and held the Irish to two hits.
Late Saturday Mooney was to face St. Ignatius.
Today there are eight games scheduled with action getting under way at 10 a.m.
Lakeview 6-13, Howland 5-8: CORTLAND -- Lakeview (6-4) recorded 19 hits and scored 19 runs in the sweep.
Nick Giangordano had two doubles and two singles while Ryan Stassinis had four hits, one a double, for the Bulldogs. For Howland, Kyle Moore homered.
Softball: KENT -- Allison Morgan tripled in the second inning and Julie Playforth drove her home for the only run as Canfield blanked Solon 1-0 in the Kent State Softball Invitational Saturday.
The Cardinals (9-5) also beat Field 2-1. Canfield got fine pitching performances from Lindsay Gaudiose (6-3) and Megan Turocy (3-2).
Against Field Gaudiose threw a three-hitter with five strikeouts and just two walks. Turocy threw a five-hitter with five strikeouts and two walks against Solon.
Kelly Williams had four hits, three in the Field game, while Playforth had two hits.
