SHARON, Pa. -- Services will be at 11 a.m. Monday at J. Bradley McGonigle Funeral Home here for Edward James Higgins, 79, of 960 Crowder Ave., who died early Thursday in Sharon Regional Health System hospital.
Mr. Higgins, who was known as "Eddie" or "Papa", was born April 7, 1922, in Stoneboro, Pa., a son of Lawrence and Grace Heim Higgins.
He attended Sharon schools and joined the Civilian Conservation Corps at the Grand Canyon of Pennsylvania, where he worked as cook and baker. He had been employed by The Malleable, American Laundry in downtown Sharon, and Sharon Steel Corp. before retiring in 1984. An Army veteran of World War II, he served with the 204th Coast Artillery Battalion, an anti-aircraft unit in the European Theater, and also attended mechanic school in Chicago. He had been a member of the Western Pennsylvania Sidebanders with the handle "Scrapper."
Besides his wife, the former Patricia Lucienne Bristow-Taylor, whom he married Oct. 18, 1957, he leaves a son, Terry Taylor of Orange, Calif.; a daughter, Linda S. Burkhart of Mercer; two sisters, Dorothy King of Lawrenceville, Ga., and Phyllis Thomas of Hubbard; a brother, Larry of Lowellville; five grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.
Friends may call from 7 to 9 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home.
