Tuesday, April 17, 2001

Big save: Martin Straka nearly doubled the Penguins' 1-0 advantage late in the second period when he flipped the puck into the crease, where it landed behind goalie Olaf Kolzig's skates. Capitals veteran Adam Oates pushed the puck forward to Kolzig's pads for a whistle.
Big save, part two: Penguins goalie Johan Hedberg's biggest even-strength save came when he stuffed Peter Bondra on a breakaway with seven minutes to go in second period.
Frustrations: The Capitals have scored two goals in the three games and haven't beaten Hedberg since the first period of Saturday's Game 2. "I'm sure it's frustrating for them that they haven't been able to score," Pens owner Mario Lemieux said. "But give us credit for playing great defense.
Pens defender Marc Bergevin said the series has a long way to go. "Kolzig is a helluva goaltender. He's won the Vezina Trophy and has been to the Stanley Cup Finals." Kolzig has a 2.00 goals against in the series. He made 21 saves in Game 3.
Powerless: The Washington power play unit is suffering, going 0-for-4 Monday with 7 minutes, 52 seconds of a man-advantage.
Up next: Game 4 of the series begins Wednesday at 7 p.m. at Mellon Arena and will be televised by Fox Sports Pittsburgh.. Game 5 is Saturday at 3 p.m. in Washington. ABC (WYTV Channel 33) will televise. If necessary, Game 6 will be at Mellon Arena Monday at 7 p.m. (Fox Sports Pittsburgh).
