SHARON, Pa. -- Shenango Valley Initiative will have a core team meeting from 7 to 9 p.m. Tuesday in First Presbyterian Church, 600 E. State St.
The meeting is for representatives of member churches and all other people willing to get involved in the work of the multidenominational, faith-based organization that addresses issues and causes of community concern.
"The core team assembly helps to build strong relationships among members of all churches," said Tom Amundsen, chairman of the assembly. Those relationships help build the base of Shenango Valley Initiative, he said.
Motorcyclist injured,in fair condition
NEW CASTLE, Pa. -- A Lowellville man is in fair condition in a Pittsburgh hospital after being thrown from his motorcycle and then hit by a car.
Phillip Alfano Jr. of Jackson Street was flown by medical helicopter Saturday afternoon at University of Pittsburgh Medical Center with unspecified injuries.
Pennsylvania State Police said Alfano was driving his motorcycle on U.S. Route 224 near Fording Road in Union Township around 11 a.m. when a car in front of him stopped to turn left. The motorcycle hit the car and Alfano rolled off the bike onto the berm. He was wearing a helmet.
A car behind him steered into the berm to avoid the wrecked vehicles and hit Alfano, who was trapped under the car until being pulled out by township firefighters.
Mental health reportto be detailed
YOUNGSTOWN -- Michael F. Hogan, director of the Ohio Department of Mental Health, will detail an Ohio Mental Health Commission report on the mental health service system and its recommendations at 1 p.m. April 26 in the Marble Room of Stambaugh Auditorium. The program is being presented as part of Gov. Bob Taft's Capital for a Day visit to Youngstown.
The report, "Changing Lives, Ohio's Action Agenda for Mental Health," is a product of the commission appointed by Hogan in November 1999, headed by Dr. Jerald Kay, professor and chairman of Wright State University's psychiatry department.

Women's program
SHARON, Pa. -- Penn State Shenango's Commission for Women and the Office of Student Affairs will present a "Mercer County Women's Status and Service Forum" from 9 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. Tuesday in Forker Laboratory.
The program will offer a Career and Finance Group forum and a Health and Behavioral Health Group forum. The program is designed to inform students and community members of the social services available in this area.
Drinking and driving
BELOIT -- The Damascus Ruritan Club, West Branch SADD and Ruriteens and the Ohio State Highway Patrol will sponsor a program on drinking and driving at 10 a.m. May 2 in the high school auditorium.
Parents are invited to attend to learn about laws regarding adults who serve alcohol to students under 21.
