WARREN -- Spring is a time of fresh air and flowers and a good time to quit smoking, Trumbull County Health officials say.
To help area residents kick the smoking habit and to motivate everyone to make positive health changes in their lives, the department is sponsoring a Spring Into Wellness event from noon to 5 p.m. April 29 at McMenamy's, U.S. Route 422, Niles.
The event is free and open to the public.
"We want everyone to come and enjoy the event which is open to all ages," said Gina DiGiacobe, director of public relations for Van Fossan & amp; Associates. Van Fossan & amp; Associates of Youngstown is handling the public relations for the event.
"We wanted to put on an event that would provide a variety of valuable information to the public," said Selene Layton R.N., director of nursing for the health department.
Variety of events: The event will offer 50 vendors who will provide free demonstrations and health-related screenings. For example, there will be demonstrations of yoga and karate and free screenings of hearing, speech, blood pressure, bone density/osteoporosis.
"There will also be a demonstration showing massage techniques," DiGiacobe said.
A local radio station will broadcast from the event and Scrappy from the Mahoning Valley Scrappers baseball team will also attend, Layton said.
"We will also offer a fashion show, refreshments, giveaways and drawings all day," Layton said.
There will also be information on parenting, smoking and nutrition, officials said.
"With such an array of activities, demonstrations and information available, we hope the event will be a success and it turns into an annual or biannual event," Layton said.
The event has been funded through a state Child Family Health Services Grant and the Trumbull County Health Department.
