Following is an edited, abridged transcript of two tape recordings of Sheriff James A. Traficant Jr. conversing with reputed racketeers Charles and Orland Carabbia. They were recorded after the 1980 general election by Charles Carabbia at his mother’s home in Struthers. Sam Traficant an aide in the sheriff’s campaign, and Andy Chapella, a former Struthers council president, were present at both meetings; accountant Joseph Fortine Sr. attended part of the second. Obscenities are abundant in the tapes but were eliminated from the transcript wherever possible. Asterisks (***) designated from the transcript is unintelligible, repetitious or lacking in significance.
