Team Roster 2010
Coach: D.J. Ogilvie
D.J. Ogilvie says the goals for his Boardman Spartans are the same that the same the team has had for the past several years. The sixth-year head coach said his team expects to compete in the difficult Federal League each week, and bring a little attitude to the conference. That, he said, will allow the wins to come. Though the team lost four All-State players, and another five All-League representatives to graduation, Ogilvie believes the strong group of seniors will lead the team. The leadership the class brings, as well as experience from the skill positions, should help the team, Ogilvie said. The Spartans will have to deal with the loss of All-State wide receiver Chase Hammond. Hammond led the team with 60 catches for 1,044 yards and four touchdowns. Each of those figures led the team, and the next highest totals came from wideout Ken Jones. Jones had 22 catches for 251 yards and two TDs. Also gone is starting quarterback Rob Boyd, who made all but two of the Spartans’ passing attempts in 2009. Boyd went 133-of 239 for 1,814 yards with nine touchdowns and 11 interceptions. Boyd was named All-League, but graduated. Trae Robinson completed both his attempts last season. Returning to the Spartan backfield is senior Nick Buonnavolonta. Buonnavolonta was the team’s leading rusher, gaining 973 yards. His TDs on the group also led the team. The offensive and defensive lines will be areas to watch, as neither will return a starter.
Quote:
"Our goals for this year are the as they have been for the last couple of years. We want to compete in the Federal League every week, and give our best effort with a great attitude. If we can consistently do this every week, winning will take care of itself."
