A township man is in the Trumbull County Jail this morning after he called the sheriff’s department to report he had shot his wife.

Ricky D. Green, 59, of 2594 Wakefield Creek Road, faces a murder charge.

He called the sheriff’s department late Sunday night and reported that he had shot his wife, Janell, 56, with a shotgun.

“I just killed my wife,” Green told the 911 dispatcher. “I need you to come out here to 2594 Wakefield Creek Road. Bring an ambulance and the sheriffs. My dogs are in the backyard.”

Green, a self-employed businessman, will be arraigned at 9 a.m. Wednesday in Central District Court here on a murder charge,

Tom Altiere, Trumbull County sheriff, said the Greens’ home wasn’t one with recurring domestic calls. There was one call in 2003, but that was for a dispute between a father and son, he said.

Green said he used a shotgun to shoot his wife who he believed was cheating on him.

“I’m pretty sure she’s dead,” Green told the dispatcher.

He said the shotgun was on the couch and he wasn’t going to touch it again.

The sheriff’s office report says deputies were dispatched about 11:30 p.m. Sunday.

Green complained of a history of heart issues and was transported by Mecca Township Fire and EMS to St. Joseph Warren Hospital.

When a nurse at the hospital inquired about his marital status, Green said. “I was married until I shot my wife tonight,” the report says.

Green told the dispatcher that he had been trying to divorce his wife, but she wouldn’t leave the house.

After several tests were performed on Green at the hospital, he became agitated and asked to sign himself out.

Deputy sheriffs transported Green to the jail.

On the way, Green asked a deputy “if I would ‘shoot’ him instead of taking him to jail,” the report said.
