The Rotary Club of Poland donated $25,000 to local charities during a luncheon at the Poland library May 22.

The money was raised through a variety of events that the Rotary Club of Poland put on, including the 28th annual chili open, a Night at the Races at Holy Family Church and the Chili Open golf event.

The charities that received donations include Boys and Girls Club, CASA, Easter Seals, Help Hotline, Hospice of the Valley, Make-A-Wish Foundation, Mission of Love, Poland Interfaith Pantry, Potential Development, Second Harvest Food Bank, Sojourner House and Youngstown Hearing and Speech. Each of the chariable organizations were treated to a lunch from Kravitz Deli.

Mary Ann Carano, member of the Rotary Club of Poland and co chair of the chili open, said it’s important for the club to give back to the community.

“Rotary is an international service organization that is in the business to service, support and fund projects directed towards children and families. It is important for our local Rotary Club to serve our community and service the needs of those less fortunate. It allows not only a sense of personal satisfaction, but at the same time with so many government programs being cut for the local nonprofit organizations, it allows us to supplement those organizations who would not have other means to continue their mission to our community,” said Carano.
