Youngstown

The Ohio Council on Holocaust Education is sponsoring a free Ohio Educator Workshop: “Echoes and Reflections,” from 9:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. June 10 at Youngstown State University.

Lunch is included. The workshop will be in Kilcawley Center’s President’s Suite. Parking is available near Kilcawley Center.

Teachers from public, private and parochial schools throughout Ohio are invited to attend at no cost. Space is limited and registration deadline is Sunday. To register, contact Sarah Weiss at 513-487-3055 or sweiss@holocaustandhumanity.org by Sunday.

The Ohio Council on Holocaust Education, under leadership of its president, Suzyn Schwebel Epstein, of Youngstown, has secured funding from foundations and individuals so teachers can participate in the workshop.

Its focus will deal with instruction of middle and high school teachers throughout Ohio, in the history and pedagogy of the Holocaust and genocide. Training will be facilitated by Weiss, executive director of The Center for Holocaust and Humanity Education in Cincinnati. “Echoes and Reflections: Multimedia Curriculum” is the result of a partnership among three leaders in Holocaust education: Anti-Defamation League, the University of Southern California Shoah Foundation Institute for Visual History and Education and Yad Vashem.

The workshop features presentations by Helene Sinnreich, executive director Center for Judaic and Holocaust Studies at YSU and a local Holocaust survivor. Participants will each receive a free copy of Echoes and Reflections, with access to lesson plans, primary sources, handouts, pictures, video testimonies and more.
