UPDATE | No IDs yet in double fatal Berlin accident

BERLIN CENTER — The driver and passenger trapped in a rental truck died at the scene of a fiery Monday night collision with a tractor trailer truck on state Route 534, and the tractor trailer truck driver was taken to St. Elizabeth Health Center in Youngstown, the Ohio State Highway Patrol said.

The deceased have not been identified, the patrol said.

The Mahoning County Coroner’s Office was listing the deceased as John Does 1 and 2 and checking some tentative identifications of the badly burned victims against dental records in an attempt to make positive identifications.

The tractor-trailer driver was identified as Mark Hoskins, 54, of Alliance, who was listed in fair condition.

The crash occurred at 11:07 p.m. between Leffingwell and Western Reserve roads, the patrol said.

The southbound rental truck went off the right side of the road, overcorrected, and went left of center, hitting the northbound tractor-trailer head-on, the patrol said. Both vehicles were engulfed in flames.

State Route 534 remains closed late this morning between Leffingwell Road and state Route 14.
