ARCANUM, Ohio

The Ohio State Highway Patrol says a man was killed in western Ohio when he was struck in the head by the limb of a tree he was trying to clear from a wooded area.

The Darke County sheriff’s office says James Miltenberger, of Castine, was dead at the scene in Arcanum, which is about 25 miles northwest of Dayton. The sheriff’s office was called to the site about 6 p.m. Sunday. Authorities say Miltenberger and another man were trying to clear a wooded area and were cutting a tree that already was on the ground.

Sheriff’s Sgt. Shawn Trissel says the men were trying to roll the tree over with a tractor.

Trissel says that when the tree rolled, a limb struck Miltenberger, who was operating the tractor.
