Joanie’s Promise Night, featuring free health screenings and mammograms, is 4:30 to 7 p.m. June 12 at the Joanie Abdu Comprehensive Breast Care Center, St. Elizabeth Health Center, 1044 Belmont Ave., Youngstown.

The event is for women age 40 through 64 who are uninsured or underinsured and meet financial eligibility criteria. Screenings offered include a health history assessment, blood-pressure screening, breast examination and a free mammogram. Patients should preregister by calling 330-480-2763 by June 5.

Bass Classic

YOUNGSTOWN

The 14th annual Muransky Companies Bass Classic, hosted by Aqua Ohio and benefiting the United Way of Youngstown and the Mahoning Valley, is Saturday at Evans and Pine lakes. Fifty teams of professional bass anglers and their amateur partners will compete for cash and prizes on the bass-filled reservoirs.

Also, a “Fish & Fun” Kids Event, in conjunction with the Bass Classic, will be from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Evans Lake off of Calla Road in Beaver Township on Saturday. There will be fishing along the shore for children who bring fishing poles, and the first 200 children will receive a goodie bag with a T-shirt. Hot dogs, pizza, chips, pop and popcorn will be provided. The event is free and open to the public.

Volunteer classes

VILLA MARIA, PA.

Hospice of the Valley’s new volunteer classes are 9 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. for five Fridays beginning June 7 through July 5 at Villa Maria Community Center’s Tabourat Center, 225 Villa Marie Road. For information or to register, call 330-788-1992.

Hospice volunteers serve in a variety of ways including companions for hospice patients at home or in nursing homes as well as helping at the Hospice House in-patient facility. New volunteers are particularly needed for western Pennsylvania, as well as for all areas of Mahoning, Trumbull and Columbiana counties. Volunteers are assigned to patients as close as possible to their homes.

Free prostate screening for 40-plus

A free prostate screening for men 40 and older is offered from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. June 13 at Midlothian Free Health Clinic, Bethlehem Lutheran Church, 388 East Midlothian Blvd., Youngstown.

Physicians will perform a digital rectal exam (DRE) and lab personnel from Humility of Mary Health Partners (HMHP) will do a prostate specific antigen (PSA) blood draw.

The screening, sponsored by HMHP Cancer Centers, Man Up Mahoning Valley, NEO Urology and the HMHP Foundation, is free and open to the public. Registration is required. Call the HMHP Healthline at 330-480-3151 or toll-free at 1-877-700-4647.

Health fair

WARREN

Grace AME Church Nursing Guild, in conjunction with the Trumbull County African American Achievers Association, is having its third annual Health Fair on the Square from noon to 4 p.m. June 8 on Courthouse Square in downtown Warren.

The event, free and open to the public, features free health screenings including dental, HIV, Hepatitis C, stroke risk, blood pressure, bone density, body fat and BMI and feet.

Health information will be available from numerous community agencies, and prizes will be raffled off. There will be face painting, Ronald McDonald will make an appearance and the St. Elizabeth mobile dental clinic will be on site.
