Sworn in as attorney

Thomas M. Lyden of Youngstown was sworn in to the Ohio Bar Association on May 6 after having successfully passed the February bar exam.

Atty. Lyden, the son of Dan Lyden Sr., graduated cum laude from Stetson University College of Law in Gulfport, Fla., and received his undergraduate degree from Lehigh University in Bethlehem, Pa.

He served as a judicial intern in 2010 to Judge Gene Donofrio of the 7th District Court of Appeals in Youngstown and as an intern for the office of U.S. Rep. Tim Ryan of Niles, D-13th, in 2008.

SCOUTS

Eagle Award

Brett J. Centofanti, 18, son of Joe and Donna Centofanti of Berlin Center, was presented his Eagle Scout Award, Scouting’s highest honor, by Boy Scout Troop 71 of Ellsworth at a court-of-honor ceremony May 19 at the Ellsworth Township Fire Station.

Centofanti has been a member of Troop 71, chartered by VFW Post 9571 of Ellsworth, since 2006. Scoutmaster is Michael A. Smith, and assistant scoutmaster is Centofanti’s father.

Centofanti has held positions of senior patrol leader, assistant patrol leader, patrol leader and quartermaster. He earned 25 merit badges as well as his Arrow of Light, the Cub Scouts’ highest honor. He has represented the Scouts on the Mahoning County Fair Board for two years, participated in a National Youth Leadership Training Course in 2009 and served as staff member for the program in 2010. He attended six BSA summer camps.

For his Eagle Scout service project, Centofanti tore down existing guardrails at the bike and walk trail head at Lincoln Park Drive near St. Angela Merici Parish in Youngstown. He constructed a fence and placed posts for the safety of walkers and bikers who use the trail. The project was completed with assistance from the Rev. Kevin Peters and parish members as well as his fellow Scouts.

Centofanti is a senior at Western Reserve High School where he is senior-class president and a member of Spanish club, student council and drama club. He is a member of the Berlin Township Volunteer Fire Department and attends St. Paul Church in Salem. He plans to attend Youngstown State University in the fall.
