Send in info for your VBS

Lists of vacation Bible schools open to the public will run on the Religion page. Please include the following information: the complete name of the church; address with city or township; time, date and location of sessions; program theme; ages or grades; and whether it’s free or there is a fee.

Information should be submitted at least two weeks before the school’s opening or its registration deadline.

Memorial Mass

Ursuline High School Class of 1958 reunion committee has scheduled a memorial Mass in honor of deceased classmates at 4:30 p.m. June 1 at Ursuline Sisters of Youngstown Chapel in the Ursuline Mother House, 4250 Shields Road. The Rev. Edward Noga, pastor of St. Patrick Church in Youngstown, will officiate. Refreshments will follow. Class members also will plan the 55th reunion.

Deacons advance

YOUNGSTOWN

Three seminarians will be ordained as transitional deacons for the Diocese of Youngstown at 10:30 a.m. June 1 at St. Columba Cathedral.

The new deacons will serve at the following parishes this summer: Rev. Mr. John Ettinger, St. Ambrose Parish, Garrettsville; Rev. Mr. Daniel Finnerty, Our Lady of Peace, Ashtabula; and Rev. Mr. Craig McHenry, St. James Parish. Following their internships, the new deacons will return to Mount St. Mary Seminary in Cincinnati to continue their priestly formation.

St. Columba Cathedral and the Diocese of Youngs-town will celebrate its patronal feast day with evening prayer and a concert at 6 p.m. June 9. Evening prayer will feature the cathedral choir directed by Dr. Daniel Laginya. At 6:30 p.m. the Cantus Fractus Recorder Consort and the Harmony String Quartet will present a concert of light chamber music. A strawberry social will follow. The events are free to the public.
